Job summary

The West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA is seeking experienced Swim Instructors to join our team at Church St and Wells Ave locations. Starting pay at $15.50, dependent upon experience, certifications and education. FREE MEMBERSHIP!

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• Must be able to demonstrate all strokes and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, or equivalent preferred.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.
• Instructs swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, keeping swimmers safe, engaged and following pool rules.
• Builds effective relationships with students and parents and Encourages parent involvement.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; refers students and parents to other programs as needed.
• Maintains records such as attendance and progress reports.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies and completes incident/audit reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away class equipment and reports damaged items.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
• Willingness to take on duties beyond those listed.
