Job summary

UETHDA - Head Start in Johnson City, TN is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support the Lead Teacher in helping 3–5 year olds grow academically and socially. You’ll help create a welcoming, safe classroom where children feel valued and excited to learn.

You’ll assist with daily activities, nurture social-emotional growth, and build positive relationships with families. A high school diploma is required; obtain a CDA within 2 years, and one year of preschool experience is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDA credential within 2 years of employment.
• 1 year experience working with preschool children.
• Basic use of Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities

• Support children's social and emotional development using positive guidance.
• Help organize and maintain a safe, healthy classroom and teach transportation safety.
• Observe, assess, and assist in planning activities to meet each child’s needs.
• Conduct home visits, attend parent meetings, and communicate with families.
• Collaborate with staff to support families and access resources.
• Prepare records, submit reports, and attend meetings and trainings.
• Assist children on and off the bus as needed.
