Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation seeks a Head Start Teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans for preschool children, collaborating with the Site Supervisor and MRDC team.

Responsibilities include implementing curricula, following Head Start standards, supporting children with diverse needs, and maintaining assessments, while ensuring a safe and engaging classroom environment. This 11-month, full-time position offers competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field.
• At least one year of early childhood classroom teaching experience preferred.
• Must pass criminal background check in MD and surrounding states.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks as outlined above.

Responsibilities

• Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool children per guidance from leadership.
• Perform duties in line with Head Start Performance Standards.
• Refer children with potential special needs or behavioral concerns to appropriate staff.
• Implement behavior plans and IEPs with team, families, schools, and professionals.
• Guide daily activities, field trips, and arrange classroom materials for preschoolers.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth center operation and adapt to changing needs.
• Maintain ongoing portfolio assessments including observations and samples.
• Foster a positive learning atmosphere encouraging curiosity and exploration.
• Provide a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Supervise children at all times and use positive behavior strategies.
• Attend trainings and meetings to develop professionally.
• Ensure files are complete, accurate, and confidential.
• Arrive on time and work well under stress.
• Perform related duties as assigned by site supervisor or director.
