Job summary

Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc. is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant for a 10.5-month program in Gatesville, TX. The role supports teaching staff, supervises children during activities, and helps implement lesson plans.

Responsibilities include planning lessons monthly, leading daily center activities, assisting with meals, ensuring safety, documenting progress, and pursuing a CDA credential after a 90-day probation. Must have a HS diploma or GED and valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
• Some experience and ability to work with pre-school children.
• Must have a warm, supportive, pleasant, and positive attitude toward young children and parents.
• Must be reliable and flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
• Must comply with all agency policies and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, and conduct a planned lesson at least once a month; more with experience.
• Prepare and conduct at least one center activity daily (circle time, science, home, etc.).
• Work with Center Director and Classroom Teacher to maintain a calm classroom aligned with early childhood standards; avoid physical punishment.
• Ensure routines are prompt, hygienic, and developmentally appropriate.
• Assist with meals; participate in family-style serving and sit with children at meals.
• Maintain safety and supervise children; conduct fire drills and emergency procedures.
• Document in children’s files and complete Individual Development Plans.
• Observe, record, and report behavior; share information with staff.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; pursue CDA after 90 days.
