Job summary

Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska is seeking a Head Start Teacher Aide Float to support classroom operations, family engagement, and daily activities within our Head Start program. Assist the education team in delivering the curriculum with developmentally appropriate practices, maintain a safe, nurturing environment, and help recruit eligible children while protecting confidentiality.

This on-site position runs 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings

Qualifications

• Grade 1: Age 17 or above; basic computer knowledge; experience with families from diverse backgrounds preferred.
• Grade 2: High School Diploma or Equivalent; age 18 or above; must obtain Child Development Associates credential within 24 months of hire.
• Grade 3: Current Child Development Associates credential.

Responsibilities

• Assist the education team to establish a classroom structure and implement curriculum with fidelity.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing educational environment for a quality child development program.
• Assist other education staff in daily classroom operations during the teacher's absence.
• Assist in the use and maintenance of materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities.
• Provide childcare at parent meetings and conferences as requested.
• Maintain confidentiality per CAPWN policy and HIPAA requirements.
• Translate communication between teacher, child, and family when appropriate.
• Engage in respectful interactions with parents and community.
• Engage in regular communication with other education staff in the classroom.

Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children and families in three main areas:

• Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Head Start, and Child Development Center.

Job Title: Head Start Teacher Aide Float

Reports to: Head Start Site Manager

Areas of Responsibility: Assist the education team to implement the education and family engagement objectives through daily operation of the classroom in accordance with Dept. of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Head Start Performance Standards, Nebraska state childcare licensing, and CAPWN policies & procedures.

Major Duties

• Assist the education team to establish a classroom structure implementing program curriculum to fidelity and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing educational environment that ensures a quality child development program.
• Assist other education staff in the daily operation of classroom in the teacher’s absence.
• Assist in the effective use and maintenance of materials, supplies, equipment, facilities and grounds.
• Provide childcare at parent meetings, conferences, etc. as requested.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding program, children and families, and staff, including records and communications following CAPWN policy and HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures.
• Translate communication between teacher, child and family, using family’s primary language, when appropriate.
• Engage in respectful interactions with parents and community.
• Engage in regular communication and information sharing with other education staff in classroom.
• Current Heartsaver ® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED card or must be able to acquire within three months.
• Recruit eligible children for the program to ensure full enrollment.
• Encourage community involvement and support for the program.
• Participate and contribute to a quality program through team meetings and goals and program assessment.

Working Conditions

• Classroom 95%
• Paperwork, planning and training 5%
• Will work some evenings and weekends for meetings and training.
• Occasional out-of-town travel for training.

Physical Requirements

• Must complete health physical upon entry to program and yearly health screenings.
• Must complete TB titer and DTAP vaccination or show proof of completion.
• Must be able to move about, getting up and down from floor play with children.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Physically able to perform job.

Minimum Qualifications

Grade 1:

• Age 17 or above – 17-year-old employees will not be left alone with children.
• Basic level of computer knowledge.
• Experience in working with families from various ethnic backgrounds is preferred.

Grade 2:

• Meet the minimum requirements above;
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Age 18 or above
• Must obtain a Child Development Associates credential within 24 months of hire

Grade 3:

• Meet the minimum requirements above;
• Current Child Development Associates credential.
