Job summary

CAPCO is seeking an Assistant Teacher for Cortland County Community Action Program. The role supports the classroom teacher to ensure a secure, positive learning environment for young children in an Early Childhood Development program.

The position requires a CDA credential or equivalent and ongoing enrollment in a program toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. Candidates must follow NYS Day Care Regulations and CAPCO guidelines, with full-time, 37.5 hours/week, year-round schedule.

Qualifications

• Must have a CDA credential or state-certified credential meeting CDA requirements.
• Enrollment in a program that leads to an associate or baccalaureate degree within two years of hire.
• Ability to follow NYS Day Care Regulations and CAPCO policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist and share classroom responsibilities with the teacher to create a safe, learning-focused environment for children.
• Support implementation of curriculum and lesson plans in collaboration with the classroom teacher.
• Observe and document child progress, maintain ongoing records, and participate in child assessments as required.

Reports to: Classroom Supervisor
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours/week, 52 weeks per year
Starting Wage: $17.55 - $18.31 per hour

Incentive: Eligiblefor $1000 Sign-On Incentive (to bepaid at 90 days and 6 months)

Job Function: Assist and share the dailyresponsibilities with the classroom teacher in providing a secure and positivelearning environment which will enable each child to obtain the awareness andskills necessary for success. This environment should reflect anage-appropriate, self-learning, nurturing, enjoyable, engaging, and aself-confident space that implements NYS Day Care Regulations and otherapplicable mandates and regulations, requiring performance of the followingduties.

EssentialDuties and Responsibilities include the following. Other dutiesmay be assigned.

• Workwith Teacher to carry out the implementation of curriculum according to Programguidelines. Assists in the planning and curriculum preparation of the dailyactivities based on provided lesson plans.
• Workcollaboratively with the classroom teacher to plan and shares in lessonplanning and implementation.
• Workcollaboratively with the classroom teacher to observe, record and fileobservations of children, keep ongoing records of child’s progress and completechild assessments following the CAPCO Early Childhood Program calendar.
• Promotepositive behavior guidance to help children develop appropriate classroom andsocial interaction skills. Practice effective behavior management skills andstrategies.
• Utilizethe Pyramid Model framework to enhance the social and emotional development ofyoung children.
• Mustprovide for daily supervision of children, always keeping appropriate teacher –to – child ratio.
• Engagein positive interactions with families daily, informing family about childwhile in the classroom and asking applicable and appropriate questions abouthome life.
• Incollaboration with Teacher, conduct classroom conferences with familiesthroughout the year as per the CAPCO Early Childhood Program planning calendarto discuss the child’s progress and include family members in creating childdevelopment goals.
• Mentornew teachers on classroom operations, policies, procedures and applicableregulations.
• Musthave the ability to adapt to last-minute staff and daily schedule adjustments.
• Promptlynotify Early Childhood Education leadership staff (supervisor, center manager, HealthServices RN and/or Coordinator) in the event of an emergency health concernwhile adhering to all Program guidelines and standards, including but notlimited to standard set forth by the NYS Office of Children and FamilyServices.
• Mustfollow agency procedures for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
• Mustattend required trainings and all requested staff or community meetings andmust work collaboratively with staff and community providers.
• Addappropriate documentation to Program database on routine basis per Programguidelines.
• Adhereto Program’s confidentiality policies and procedures.
• Beknowledgeable of and follow NYS OCFS Child Care Regulations.
• Completeall applicable end-of-month paperwork timely per Program guidelines.
• Activelyparticipate in Family Engagement activities, including classroom-specific,Program-specific, and overall Agency activities.
• Mume requested to work one-on-one with students as needed in the classroom tosupport the overall curriculum, behaviors, and classroom functions.
• Mume re-assigned to alternate classrooms throughout the Program to providesupport as needed. Assignments may be temporary or long-term dependent onProgram-need.

Head Start Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Beknowledgeable of and follow Head Start Performance Standards.
• Inconjunction with the teacher, explores resources for the creation of activitieswhich facilitate learning in all domain of the Birth to Five Early LearningFramework.
• Collect,track and maintain In-Kind information and data for Program reporting.

Educationand/or Experience

At a minimum, have a CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate thatmeets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in aprogram that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolledin a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time ofhire.

NYS Driver'sLicense. Clearance through the NYS Maltreatment Registry. Must complete Daycareregulation trainings as required.

Otherqualifications

Initial Day Care PhysicalExam and TB Testing upon hire. Fingerprinting for criminal background per thestandards set forth by daycare licensing. Must be able to travel to all HeadStart sites, training, visits, etc. as necessary and requested.
