Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate with children and families with limited English proficiency
• Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic
• Computer literate and able to operate office machinery
• Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision
• Ability to operate all office machinery
• Ability to function with diplomacy and tact
• Hold student information in strict confidence
• Report suspected child abuse/neglect to authorities
• Adhere to Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures
• Follow DFPS and OHS regulations and standards
• Be a team player and reliable transportation essential
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Complete and pass health examination
• Confirm work eligibility
• Pass driving history check and criminal background check
• Lift up to 60 pounds and assist with active child engagement

Responsibilities

• Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom
• Assist with implementation and coordination of all Head Start functions
• Identify, report, and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases
• Provide educational experiences to develop language, and promote multi-cultural awareness
• Ensure all children receive individual attention
• Be in the classroom before children arrive
• Maintain safety in classroom, playground, restrooms and equipment
• Maximize volunteer support and assist with assessments and screenings
• Support field trips and school functions
• Assist with home-style meal service for children
• Report illnesses or accidents to the Coordinator or Family Specialist
• Attend workshops and trainings and maintain mandated hours
• Keep classroom clean and neat, demonstrate good judgment and self-control
• Acquire and maintain CPR and First Aid certification
• Support daily activities with proper staff/child ratios
• Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor
