Job summary

School City of Hammond is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant Substitute responsible for supporting the teaching team and assisting in the care of children. The role requires a high school diploma and experience with young children, preferably in early childhood education. Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with young children, including children with special needs.
• Completion of Parents as Subs training - preferred.
• College coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development - preferred.
• Child Development Associate Credential or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development - a plus.
• One year of experience in Head Start as Head Start parent or community volunteer – preferred.
• Fluency in speaking and writing Spanish – a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the care and education of a specific group of children in the absence of the classroom Teacher Assistant.
• Support the teaching team in the coordination and implementation of classroom instructional activities.
• Promote the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of children.
• Facilitate and support rest time activities as needed.
• Participate in the development of a positive classroom climate.
• Establish positive and productive working relationships with classroom staff and parents.
