School City of Hammond is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant Substitute responsible for supporting the teaching team and assisting in the care of children. The role requires a high school diploma and experience with young children, preferably in early childhood education. Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with young children, including children with special needs.
Completion of Parents as Subs training - preferred.
College coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development - preferred.
Child Development Associate Credential or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development - a plus.
One year of experience in Head Start as Head Start parent or community volunteer – preferred.
Fluency in speaking and writing Spanish – a plus.
Responsibilities
Assist in the care and education of a specific group of children in the absence of the classroom Teacher Assistant.
Support the teaching team in the coordination and implementation of classroom instructional activities.
Promote the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of children.
Facilitate and support rest time activities as needed.
Participate in the development of a positive classroom climate.
Establish positive and productive working relationships with classroom staff and parents.
