Job summary

Innovative Network of Knowledge is seeking a part-time Head Start Assistant to support daily classroom operations in a U.S. Head Start program.

The role involves assisting in education, safety, and coordination of Head Start functions, with a focus on nurturing language development and multicultural awareness. You would help ensure individual attention to children, participate in field trips, and support meal service while maintaining confidentiality and following DFPS and OHS regulations.

Qualifications

• Must be able to serve and effectively communicate with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
• Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
• Computer literate.
• Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.
• Ability to operate all office machinery.
• Handle all student information with utmost confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
• Assist with implementation and coordination of all Head Start or Early Head Start functions.
• Identify, report, provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the Family Services Center Manager or Center Director.
• Assist in providing educational experiences that develop language arts and multicultural understanding.
• Ensure all children receive individual attention.
• Be in the classroom before children arrive each morning.
• Ensure safety of classrooms, playgrounds, restrooms, and equipment.
• Assist with field trips and other school functions.
• Assist with home-style meal service for the children.
• Report illness or accidents to the Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
• Report student absences of three days or more to Center Coordinator and/or Center Coordinator/Family Specialist.
• Attend workshops and trainings.
• Maintain mandated training hours and documentation.
• Keep areas clean and neat; demonstrate good judgment and self-control with Head Start children.
• Acquire and maintain CPR and First Aid training.
• Assist with daily activities including staff/child ratio, discipline and safety.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
