Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) is seeking a Bus Monitor to support Head Start transportation. You will assist children boarding and exiting the bus, ensure seat belts and safety devices are secured, and help maintain a positive learning environment during trips.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, coordinating with the driver, keeping attendance logs, and reporting safety concerns. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and

Qualifications

• Patience and a caring attitude toward young children.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and respond calmly in emergencies.
• Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting; medical eval and TB screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist children in safely boarding and exiting the bus, including those with special needs.
• Ensure children are properly secured in seat belts or restraints.
• Monitor behavior and communicate bus rules for safety.
• Escort children to drop-off locations and ensure they are received by guardians.
• Follow emergency procedures and assist in drills and evacuations.
• Keep attendance logs and transportation reports accurate.
