Job summary

Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack Counties, Inc. is looking for a Head Start Assistant Teacher for the school year in Concord, NH.

You will support the Lead Teacher in delivering a high-quality early childhood program focused on cognitive, social, and emotional development for preschoolers. This full-time role requires a High School Diploma or CDA, experience in an early childhood classroom, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Salary Description: $21.84-25.31, based on level of education and relative work experience

A Day in the Life as a Head Start Teacher:

As the Head Start Teacher, you’ll play an essential role in providing all aspects of a quality child development program with emphasis on the cognitive, social and emotional development of preschool-aged children. Your day will involve:

• Assists the Lead Teacher in planning and providing quality educational experiences for preschool-aged children by helping to plan and prepare daily and weekly program experiences, considering the needs of children.


• Engages in adult-child interactions that are responsive, supportive, and respectful of children’s needs, development, and play interests.


• Participates in the daily activities planned for the children.

Requirements

Qualifications to Be a Teacher:

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent credential, Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or equivalent; must have Child Growth and Development coursework or equivalent coursework according to NH State Childcare Licensing requirements


• Experience: Previous experience working in an early childhood classroom


• Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with young children and their families and ability to relate comfortably to income-eligible families.


• Characteristics: Attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace and early childhood classroom experience.


• Technical: successful completion of criminal record check, CPR/First Aid certification

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for occasional travel between program locations.
