Job summary

Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack Counties is seeking a Head Start Assistant Teacher for the school year in Concord, NH. The role supports the Lead Teacher by planning and delivering preschool experiences, engaging children, and participating in daily activities designed to foster learning and development.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, CDA or NH licensing coursework, and experience in early childhood settings.

Hours: Full Time, Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week

Salary Description: $17.75-$22.49, based on level of education and relative work experience

A Day in the Life as a Head Start Assistant Teacher

Role

• Assists the Lead Teacher in planning and providing quality educational experiences for preschool-aged children by helping to plan and prepare daily and weekly program experiences, considering the needs of children.
• Engages in adult-child interactions that are responsive, supportive, and respectful of children’s needs, development, and play interests.
• Participates in the daily activities planned for the children.

Requirements

Qualifications to Be an Assistant Teacher

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent credential, Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or equivalent; must have Child Growth and Development coursework or equivalent coursework according to NH State Childcare Licensing requirements
• Experience: Previous experience working in an early childhood classroom
• Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with young children and their families and ability to relate comfortably to income-eligible families.
• Characteristics: Attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace and early childhood classroom experience.
• Technical: successful completion of criminal record check, CPR/First Aid certification

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for occasional travel between program locations.
