Job summary

Adams County Head Start is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support early childhood education activities for preschoolers. You will work with a Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate instruction, monitor child progress, and promote positive discipline and safe, organized classroom environments.

The role emphasizes family engagement, communication with parents, and participation in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practices in a Head Start program.

Qualifications

• Head Start requires Assistant Teachers to have one of the following.
• Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with major coursework in early childhood education.
• Early Childhood Education Teacher Certificate from a college with major coursework in Early Child Education.
• Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or state award certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential.
• At a minimum seven (7) completed early childhood education college courses and evident in official transcripts.

Responsibilities

• Assist and perform various duties to provide students with learning activities and experiences across language, literacy, social-emotional, physical, and math domains.
• Assist with developing, preparing, and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly instructional activities aligned with Head Start standards and school readiness goals.
• Support instruction to children in classroom activities, focusing on growth in socio-emotional, motor, cognitive, language, health and personal hygiene skills.
• Observe, record, and evaluate each child’s activity and development; adjust activities based on developmental needs or behavior.
• Collaborate with Lead Teacher to support IEPs and behavior plans, and provide input during meetings to support each child’s progress.
• Assist with screening tools to assess development and create activities based on outcomes.
• Communicate with parents about child strengths and concerns and guide home activities to support development.
• Maintain active supervision and ensure positive discipline practices throughout the day.
• Attend staff meetings, workshops, and trainings to advance teaching skills and participate in professional development.
• Support school-home collaboration through conferences and home visits and help transfer classroom concepts to home.

Education
