Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation in Maryland is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the Lead Teacher, create a safe, engaging learning environment for preschoolers, and promote school readiness.

The role involves assisting with lesson plans, behavior management, daily routines, family engagement, and collaboration with staff. A high school diploma or GED is required; CDA or Early Childhood Education coursework preferred. 11-month full-time position.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow instructions and adapt to classroom needs.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Effective written and oral communication.
• Relationship building experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to MRDC locations.
• Must pass criminal background check and Maryland licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans.
• Engage with children in developmentally appropriate activities.
• Observe and assess children's development and provide input for learning plans.
• Encourage and model positive social-emotional behaviors and problem-solving.
• Supervise children to ensure a safe and nurturing environment.
• Assist with classroom organization and daily routines (meals, naptime, transitions).
• Follow Head Start health and safety policies, including hygiene and sanitation.
• Develop positive relationships with families and communicate progress.
