Job summary

SCMCAA is seeking a Lead Teacher for a Head Start Center to plan and manage classrooms, develop and implement educational programs, and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children and families served by the program.

The role requires managing weekly lesson plans, conducting health and developmental screenings, home visits, and active parent engagement. Strong teamwork with staff and community partners is essential to support children’s development.

Qualifications

• Possess an AA degree in child development, early childhood education or a related field.
• Must have 8 credit hours in early childhood education courses if degree is not in a related field.
• Possess an Infant/Toddler CDA.
• Knowledge of early childhood development, teaching methods and practices.
• Ability to relate to children and parents positively.
• Ability to supervise classroom staff.
• Ability to implement effective classroom experiences per Head Start.

Responsibilities

• Direct the classroom activities and ensure health, safety and well-being of children.
• Assist in developing the overall curriculum.
• Develop weekly lesson plans to meet each child’s needs.
• Administer health-related screenings and document results.
• Administer developmental screenings and document results.
• Observe and document each child’s ongoing development.
• Refer children with suspected problems for support.
• Maintain facilities, equipment and supplies.
• Conduct home visits to align with program goals.
• Encourage parent involvement and organize parent committees.
• Prepare agency and Head Start reports as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality of the program.
