Job summary

Brazos Valley Community Action Prog is seeking a kitchen cook for Head Start sites. You will prepare nutritious meals, follow safety standards, and train/assist staff to ensure age-appropriate meals across classrooms.

Responsibilities include menu planning, inventory management, ordering supplies, delivering meals, and ensuring compliance with Health and Head Start requirements. Physical duties and background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum of high school diploma; Associate degree preferred.
• Strong knowledge of large-scale food production.
• Working knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures.
• Working knowledge of inventory systems.
• Driver license preferred in some centers.
• Must have a food handlers' card prior to employment.
• Ability to obtain manager certification food handler’s card within 90 days.
• Must obtain CPR & First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
• Position contingent upon successful federal background check.

Responsibilities

• Assembles food, dishes, utensils, and supplies for timely meal prep.
• Prepares high-quality nutritional food in quantity as directed.
• Follows standardized recipes.
• Adheres to sanitation and safety procedures for Head Start kitchen.
• Ensure proper food temperatures and sanitary kitchen environments.
• Washes dishes, pots, pans, and utensils with approved methods.
• Return items to proper storage.
• Conduct routine kitchen and equipment cleaning; weekly deep clean.
• Deliver meals to classrooms as assigned.
• Order and maintain supplies as needed.
• Receive orders from vendors and verify items delivered.
• Plan menus and manage food inventories.
• Reconcile meal services for monthly reporting.
