Job summary

STEP, Inc. is seeking a Classroom Aide to support a Head Start program, helping preschool children learn, grow, and thrive in a safe, engaging environment. You will work with teachers to carry out classroom activities, contribute to positive behavior, and assist with daily routines and documentation.

Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on a 182-day school calendar. The role offers a $15.19/hour pay rate and opportunities to impact children’s early education and family engagement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work effectively with young children.
• Bilingual English-Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with educational activities and classroom routines.
• Support child safety at all times, inside and outside the classroom.
• Encourage positive behavior and social interactions.
• Assist with handwashing, toothbrushing, toileting, and meals as needed.
• Help prepare learning materials and classroom resources.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, staff and volunteers.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and educational field trips.
• Complete required documentation accurately and on time.

What You'll Do

As a Classroom Aide, you will work alongside teachers and other Head Start staff to support daily classroom activities and ensure children remain safe, engaged, and cared for throughout the day. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with educational activities and classroom routines
• Supporting child safety at all times, both inside and outside the classroom
• Encouraging positive behavior and social interactions
• Assisting with activities such as handwashing, toothbrushing, toileting, and meal times
• Helping prepare learning materials and classroom resources
• Building positive relationships with children, families, staff, and volunteers
• Participating in meetings, trainings, and educational field trips
• Completing required documentation accurately and on time

Depending on assignment, you may also accompany children on a bus and assist with safety procedures during transportation.

Pay Rate: $15.19 per hour

Note: Schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Position follows a 182-day school calendar schedule. (Summers off!)

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to work effectively with young children
• Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and work as part of a team
• Basic technology skills, including email and online trainings

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual English-Spanish skills are a plus

• Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
• Lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Bend, kneel, squat, reach, and climb stairs
