Job summary

Kanawha County Schools seeks a school coach responsible for developing high-caliber instruction, teaching fundamentals, and managing practice sessions in alignment with WVSSAC policies.

The role involves organizing staff, maintaining equipment, monitoring injuries, and ensuring ethical conduct. Certified teachers or eligible non-teaching applicants will undertake WVSSAC training and online concussion awareness, with ongoing development.

Qualifications

• Candidates must meet state certification requirements and possess a high school credential.
• WVSSAC certification is required or expected to complete WVSSAC training.
• Certifications must be current and verifiable.

Responsibilities

• Coaches coordinate with building principal and athletic director.
• Develop rapport and organize coaching staff and practice sessions.
• Ensure appropriate conduct during practices and games.
• Attend league and WVSSAC meetings and participate in growth activities.

• Motivates staff and players toward desired goals.
• Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language.

Coaching and Related Area

• Develops high caliber and quality instruction.
• Teachesfundamental skills.
• Handles athletic injuries.
• Cares for equipment.
• Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately.
• Designs quality organization of practice sessions.
• Designs pre-season planning.
• Supervises managers and other support personnel.
• Manages budget.
• Follows purchasing procedures.
• Iniates game organizational skills.
• Follows league, conference and WVSSAC policies.
• Devotes time and energy to coaching duties.
• Follows end of season procedures.
• Complete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions

Requirements for Certified Teachers

NewTEACHERS that have been hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completethe On-line Concussion Awareness Course throughthe KCS Staff Development Site

The training courses will be taught throughout the year.

Cost of the course will be $15.00

This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
