Job summary

Qualifications

• Valid WV teaching certification, WVDE teaching permit, or substitute permit.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• WVSSAC certification required or pursued.

Responsibilities

• Develop rapport with coaching staff and school community.
• Organizes coaching staff and designs practice sessions.
• Teaches fundamentals and high-caliber instruction.
• Handles athletic injuries and cares for equipment.
• Supervises participants, disciplines the team, and follows policies.
• Attends WVSSAC league, conference, and meetings; pursues ongoing training.

Coaching and Related Area

• Develops high caliber and quality instruction.
• Teachesfundamental skills.
• Handles athletic injuries.
• Cares for equipment.
• Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately.
• Designs quality organization of practice sessions.
• Designs pre-season planning.
• Supervises managers and other support personnel.
• Manages budget.
• Follows purchasing procedures.
• Iniates game organizational skills.
• Follows league, conference and WVSSAC policies.
• Devotes time and energy to coaching duties.
• Follows end of season procedures.
• Complete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions

Requirements for Certified Teachers

NewTEACHERS that have been hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completethe On-line Concussion Awareness Course throughthe KCS Staff Development Site

The training courses will be taught throughout the year.

Cost of the course will be $15.00

This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
