Job summary

Kanawha County Schools seeks a qualified coach with WV teaching certification or WVDE permit and WVSSAC certification to lead coaching staff and develop high-level training for student-athletes.

Responsibilities include organizing staff, fostering positive relations with participants and stakeholders, handling equipment, managing practice sessions, and ensuring compliance with WVSSAC policies and concussion awareness requirements.

Qualifications

• WVSSAC Training & Certification Program must be completed; costs may apply
• New teachers/coaches must complete required WVSSAC courses
• Cost estimates include: WVSSAC background-related fees and certifications

Coaching and Related Area

• Develops high caliber and quality instruction.

• Handles athletic injuries.
• Cares for equipment.
• Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately.
• Designs quality organization of practice sessions.
• Designs pre-season planning.
• Supervises managers and other support personnel.
• Manages budget.
• Follows purchasing procedures.
• Iniates game organizational skills.
• Follows league, conference and WVSSAC policies.
• Devotes time and energy to coaching duties.
• Follows end of season procedures.
• Complete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions

Requirements for Certified Teachers

NewTEACHERS that have been hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completethe On-line Concussion Awareness Course throughthe KCS Staff Development Site

The training courses will be taught throughout the year.

Cost of the course will be $15.00

This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
