Job summary

Kanawha County Schools is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 season. This role supports the head coach, develops players, and upholds standards during practices and games at the high school level.

The position requires WV teaching credentials, WVSSAC certification, and active collaboration with school administrators and staff. Work includes attendance at league events and ongoing staff development.

Qualifications

• WV teaching certification or WVDE teaching permit or substitute permit is required.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• WVSSAC certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Professional and interpersonal relations with the school and community.
• Cooperates with building principal and athletic director.
• Develops rapport with coaching staff and organizes coaching staff.
• Develops positive relationships with participants, student body, faculty, parents, community, officials, media, and opponents.

Requirements for Certified Teachers

New TEACHERS that have been hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and completethe On-line Concussion Awareness Course throughthe KCS Staff Development Site

The training courses will be taught throughout the year.

Cost of the course will be $15.00

This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012 by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified
