Backblaze is hiring a Director of Security Operations to lead the day-to-day cybersecurity operations across traditional and AI-enabled environments. This hands-on technology leader reports to the CIO and collaborates with Security Architecture & Engineering to drive detection, response, and resilience on a large-scale cloud platform.

Qualifications

• Experience leading Security Operations, Incident Response, Detection Engineering, or related cybersecurity functions.
• Hands-on security controls across cloud, infrastructure, apps, identity, endpoints, and networks.
• Proven track record coordinating significant cybersecurity incidents.

Responsibilities

• Direct end-to-end security operations including monitoring, incident response, threat hunting, vulnerability management, adversary emulation, identity security, and operational resilience.
• Set operational priorities, service objectives, metrics, playbooks, and processes aligned to organizational risk and business needs.
• Serve as incident commander for major cybersecurity events and translate post-incident learnings into concrete control and process improvements.
• Drive responsible adoption of AI-assisted capabilities for detection, investigation, vulnerability analysis, threat hunting, and response.
• Ensure effective security monitoring and response coverage for AI applications, autonomous agents, workloads, and non-human identities.
• Apply automation to compress detection, analysis, containment, and remediation timelines and reduce manual toil.
• Partner with Security Architecture & Engineering on control design, implementation, operationalization, monitoring, and validation.
• Develop security talent and deliver clear executive reporting on incidents, exposure, operational performance, risk, and program maturity.
