Job summary

American Airlines seeks a Manager of Safety Science and Data Analytics to lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts. You will guide advanced modeling, forecasting, and strategic data solutions that improve safety outcomes and operational efficiency across the airline.

The role emphasizes building scalable analytics, mentoring staff, and partnering with operations and research groups to translate insights into actionable improvements within a 24/7 aviation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience/training.
• 3-5 years of relevant technical or business work experience.
• Experience leading direct reports.
• Experience overseeing data projects from inception to completion, including defining requirements, managing timelines, and delivering results.
• Strong understanding of various machine learning algorithms, statistical methods, and data analysis techniques.

Responsibilities

• Manages a team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Provides technical leadership and strategic direction for safety-related data solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Supports safety initiatives through development and application of advanced dependability models and analyses.
• Identifies and evaluates new methodologies to solve cross-departmental business and technical problems.
• Oversees forecasting, mathematical programming, ML, optimization, simulation, and statistical analysis to develop practical solutions.
• Leads creation of innovative safety solutions from concept to production, including business cases and stakeholder adoption.
• Initiates collaborative research projects with academia and government to advance the field.
• Cultivates partnerships with business operations and development teams to integrate R&D into processes.
