Job summary

The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a Head of Reference and Adult Services. This full‑time role oversees three librarians and four Reader’s Advisors, guiding reference, databases, and adult collection development while collaborating on outreach and programming.

Ideal candidates have an MLS/MIS, 5+ years in Reference/Adult Services, and 2–5 years of management, with strong communication skills and web/software proficiency. NJ residency is required.

Qualifications

• Must have an M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree and a background in public library Reference and Adult Services.
• Minimum five years’ experience in Reference or Adult Services in a public library and two to five years of management experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with library software such as ILS and room reservation systems; familiarity with web-based and software programs including Canva and Excel.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus; knowledge of web editing is desirable.
• New Jersey residency required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Reference and Adult Services Department, including three full‑time and three part‑time librarians and four part‑time Reader’s Advisors.
• Manage adult collection development for eBooks, fiction, non-fiction, streaming, and reference databases; oversee library website and online presence.
• Lead outreach, public programming, technology help and collaboration across departments.
• Supervise staff, program development, and strategic planning for patron services.
• Support ILS development and the library’s security, incident reporting, and print management systems.
