Job summary

McKenney's seeks a Director of Pipe Manufacturing to lead fabrication and assembly operations, driving operational excellence, scalability, and digital integration. The role partners with Engineering, VDC, Operations, and Finance to support project execution and field productivity.

Responsibilities include budgeting, standardization, safety, quality, and continuous improvement across fabrication, with emphasis on Lean, 5S, and KPI-driven performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or building construction, or equivalent.
• PM or BIM management experience in the mechanical and plumbing industry or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years in construction industry.
• Minimum 3 years in direct leadership of teams.
• Proficient PC experience (Windows, Office, email, databases).

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute long-term fabrication and manufacturing strategy aligned with growth, profitability.
• Lead technology-enabled operation to be more manufacturer than contractor.
• Set department budgets and manage overhead, capex, and costs.
• Standardize best practices with Lean, workflow efficiency, and continuous improvement.
• Build relationships with stakeholders to align fabrication with business objectives.
• Lead supervisors and shop leadership to drive safety, quality, productivity.
• Oversee standardized fabrication processes, including welding program compliance.
• Maintain onboarding and workforce development programs.
• Adopt digital fabrication tools (including Stratus) to support workflows.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and ROI.
• Collaborate on workforce strategies to recruit/train/retain.
• Deploy new tools and processes across fabrication operations.
• Maintain capacity planning aligned with backlog and growth.
• Drive 5S and production efficiency improvements.
• Support standardization with Engineering and VDC.
• Establish KPIs and ensure visibility and accountability.
• Ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Work with Shop Leaders to ensure weekly documentation.
• Produce monthly productivity reports; target 2% annual gain.
• Develop external vendor relationships and make/make-or-buy decisions.
• Advise executive leadership as SME on trends and risks.
• Conduct annual coaching and develop PDPs.
• Handle additional assignments per supervisor.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or building construction, or equivalent

Project management or BIM management experience in the mechanical and plumbing industry or equivalent

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction industry

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in providing direct leadership of teams
