Job summary

Pali Mountain seeks an Outdoor Education Director in Running Springs, CA. This full-time, year-round role provides program oversight, staff mentorship, and leadership for the Outdoor Education program, reporting to the Executive Director and supervising multiple directors and a large staff of instructors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
• 5 years in a management, supervisor or leadership position in a similar styled program.
• 10 seasons of mentoring camp counselors, instructors, or similar roles.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate concerns, feedback and information to staff, administration, teachers and parents.
• Must be a positive leader with strong supervisory and management skills.
• Openness to feedback and desire to grow professionally.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
• Experience as a group counselor or staff member in an overnight camp setting.
• Prior experience with certification process, AEE, WASC, AEOE, or any similar certification.
• Understand and apply pertinent personnel policies, laws, rules, and regulations.
• Must demonstrate good judgment and decision-making ability in time sensitive situations.
• Must have initiative and be able to work with minimal supervision on numerous tasks.
• Must be approachable.
• Must be organized and have excellent time management skills.
• Must be flexible and diverse in philosophies to work with various types of school groups.
• Ability to problem solve and make decisions quickly to resolve staffing issues, scheduling errors and any day to day needs of the program.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Assistant Directors, Staff Supervisors, and leadership team; oversee 110+ instructor staff.
• Provide programmatic leadership and mentorship to staff.
• Ensure staff discipline is properly documented and followed.
• Maintain open communication with other departments.
• Lead leadership training sessions twice a year.
• Support sales and calendar decisions; assist with customer service and events.
• Provide customer service for clients and respond to schools/parents.
• Relay information clearly to staff and administration.
• Attend weekly Leadership meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
