Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Director of Non-Capital Construction to lead a program for projects under $3M and 5,000 SF. You will supervise multiple project delivery teams, guide project budgets, schedules, and contracts, and serve as the owner’s primary contact through design and startup phases.

The role demands strong project management experience, ability to interpret complex documents, and a focus on collaborative teamwork and client service across a university environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in architecture, engineering, or building construction; OR training and work experience at a level that equates to a degree
• Significant project management experience with a comprehensive understanding of the design and construction phases
• Working knowledge of complex site/building design with emphasis on construction processes
• Proven ability to provide recommendations and project management guidance for multiple projects
• Proven experience with design services and construction cost negotiation
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent major and minor projects with respect to technical, professional and fiscal issues
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere and provide superior client service in a diverse environment
• Ability to interpret complex design/construction documents and administer contracts
• Basic knowledge of building codes and construction means and methods
• Prior supervisory experience managing employees and project teams
• Must have a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Lead two or more project delivery teams and a minor renovations team
• Manage contracts, budgets, schedules, and coordination/communication
• Represent the owner during design/construction as the primary contact
• Ensure projects align with program goals and established scope, cost, schedule, and quality
• Develop positive relationships with campus customers and service providers
• Provide leadership and mentorship to managers and supervisors in the unit
