Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Technical and Research Infrastructure Director to lead the Micro-/Nanofabrication Cleanroom and Laboratory within the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. You will steer the facility's technical roadmap, major equipment programs, and infrastructure modernization, coordinating with vendors, faculty labs, and user projects.

Qualifications

Advanced degree in engineering or physical science, or a related field with significant experience.
Experience in semiconductor/fabrication/nanofabrication and scientific instrumentation.
Experience commissioning, integrating, modifying or managing sophisticated equipment.
Experience with vacuum systems, lithography, plasma processing, thin-film deposition or related lab tech.
Experience leading complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders.
Experience with budget/resource-management responsibilities.
Experience developing technical specifications and engineering documentation.
Experience supervising or coordinating technical personnel.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership for the cleanroom and lab facilities.
Translate institutional priorities into equipment, process-support, and data-acquisition capabilities.
Lead major equipment programs, infrastructure modernization, and vendor relations.
Oversee budgets, cost-recovery, and lab billing platforms.
Coordinate across multiple labs, service units, vendors, and user projects.
Supervise technical personnel and ensure compliance with standards.
