Job summary

Protolabs in Maple Plain, MN is seeking a Director of Software Engineering for Manufacturing Operations. You will lead MES/ES integration, set multi-year technology strategy, and manage several engineering teams across factories to drive manufacturing excellence.

You will partner with Operations leadership, shape roadmaps, and champion Agile practices at scale while building a scalable, high-performing organization across distributed sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Software Eng or related field; advanced degree a plus.
• 10+ years of progressive software leadership experience in manufacturing.
• Experience leading managers across multiple teams and sites.
• Experience with MES/ES integration in multi-site manufacturing environments.
• Strong Agile leadership and global collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve multi-year technology strategy and roadmap for manufacturing operations.
• Partner with COO to assess current-state tech and shape future manufacturing tech needs.
• Lead engineering managers and their teams across locations, setting priorities.
• Direct design and support of software driving MES, machine operations, and logistics.
• Establish standards and integration patterns for MES/ES platforms.
• Set project priorities balancing new capabilities, modernization, and operations.
• Build relationships with factory, supply chain, and logistics stakeholders.
• Drive process improvements and software quality across teams.
• Represent manufacturing tech in executive discussions and translate strategy into actions.
• Mentor engineering managers and develop organizational capability.
