A leading healthcare institution in the United States is seeking a qualified Head of Unit Laboratory. The Consultant will oversee the quality and standards of the General Laboratory, ensure timely delivery of accurate information, and manage laboratory operations. Ideal candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, a Master's and preferably a PhD, alongside nine years of relevant experience. This is a crucial role that involves both administrative and patient care responsibilities.

• Must be registered to the Ugandan Allied Health Professionals Council.
• Minimum of nine years of relevant work experience, three at Consultant level.

Job description

TheHead of Unit Laboratory is a suitably qualified Consultant who is legally, morally, and ethically responsible for the scope, standards, and quality of service of the General Laboratory of the hospital. The Consultant has the knowledge and skills in all areas of practice which includes administration, teaching and education, research, and patient care. He/she stands responsible for medically useful, accurate information made available in a timely fashion to enhance medical services to patients. The COnsultant participates in all managerial decisions and guides the operation of the laboratory ranging from selection of staff, choice of methods, purchase of equipment, quality assurance, quality control, safety, hours of operation, scheduling of staff, and utilization management.

Education and Experience:

• A Bachelors’ degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or its equivalent from a recognized University/Institution
• A Masters’ Degree in either Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Histopathology, Microbiology, Parasitology or Virology from a recognized University /Institution
• A PhD in a Medical Laboratory Science will be an added advantage
• Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Allied Health Professionals Council
• Minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been at Consultant level in a reputable Organisation
