Job summary

Aera Therapeutics in Cambridge, MA, is seeking an Associate Director of Lab Technologies to lead software, infrastructure, and computational data for the research organization. The role drives secure, scalable, AI-enabled solutions and requires onsite presence in Cambridge at least 4 days a week.

The candidate will own data architecture, Benchling development, and bioinformatics across the group, with responsibilities spanning cloud security, vendor management, and budget justifications.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a technical discipline with extensive research experience.
• PhD with 6–8 years of relevant industry experience is also acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Develop software that runs on lab instruments to capture data and transform it into structured form.
• Build and maintain cloud architecture and security hygiene, access control to systems.
• Own the data architecture for scientific data with schemas and models.
• Develop and maintain Benchling as the core lab informatics system with evolving features.
• Oversee bioinformatics development including support for NGS analysis and oligonucleotide design.
• Enable computational design and discovery using machine learning and AI methods.
• Evaluate, negotiate, and manage software vendors and contracts.
• Prepare budget requests and manage purchasing.
