Job summary

The A’s are seeking a Director of Hitting to lead the minor league hitting development program in Mesa, AZ. You will supervise hitting coaches across affiliates and coordinate with field staff to improve hitters’ physical, mental, and emotional approaches to hitting.

You will use TrackMan, Rapsodo, Hawkeye, and motion capture data to guide coaching interventions, while aligning with analytics and performance teams. This role requires extensive travel and leadership across the organization.

Qualifications

• High degree baseball hitting experience as a coach and/or player, preferably at MiLB or college level.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and technical skills.
• Strong understanding of hitting injuries, mechanics, and philosophies.
• Proven ability to communicate and build relationships with players, coaches, and front office.
• Experience with video analysis and data-driven player development.
• Growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning.
• Flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays during the season.
• Ability to stand and participate in field activities for extended periods.
• Spanish is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversee hitting development curriculum for all minor league levels.
• Create individualized development plans with on-field coaches and performance staff.
• Monitor progress via video, in-game results, practice, swing data and biomechanics data.
• Provide regular feedback and instruction to hitting coaches and players, on-site and remotely.
• Coordinate hitting programs, batting practice, cage work, and swing development sessions.
• Lead systemwide meetings, workshops, and onboarding on hitting philosophy and development.
• Ensure consistent teaching methods across all affiliates.
• Collaborate with MLB hitting department for continuity between levels.
• Work with analysts, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, and nutrition to optimize development.
• Use tools (TrackMan, Rapsodo, Hawkeye, Edgertronic) to evaluate and support players.
• Translate performance data into coaching interventions.
• Partner with analytics on workload, mechanics, injury prevention, and performance.
• Travel to minor league affiliates, complexes, and Spring Training.
• Participate in Spring Training, mini-camps, and instructional league as needed.
