Job summary

mhs homes is seeking a Head of Governance to lead the Governance Team and strengthen decision-making across the organisation. You'll work closely with our Board, Committees and Executive Team in a high-visibility role that shapes strategy and accountability. Location: Chatham, Kent (hybrid working).

• Strong governance, risk and compliance experience in social housing, education, public sector or regulated environments.
• Confident working with Boards and Committees.
• Ability to interpret regulation and guidance clearly.
• Clear communicator and highly organised with accurate, high-quality work.
• Supportive leader who develops others and fosters continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the governance framework, policies and ways of working.
• Ensure effective Board, Committee and leadership meetings with clear, well-informed decisions.
• Lead governance reporting to boards and committees.
• Oversee regulatory compliance, statutory registers, records and returns.
• Strengthen risk management, assurance and internal audit arrangements.
• Lead and develop a high-performing Governance Team.
• Build trusted relationships with colleagues, Board members, regulators and partners.
