Job summary

Civita Health Care Systems in Waterford, CT seeks a Director of Physical Plant (Maintenance) to lead the maintenance department of a skilled nursing facility. You will plan, organize, develop and direct maintenance operations to keep the facility safe and comfortable.

You will manage preventive maintenance, supervise contractors, respond to emergencies, and ensure compliance with building codes and privacy practices. This is a key leadership role in a patient-centered care environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience in maintenance/plant.
• Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, etc., and various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Meet the maintenance needs of the facility.
• Recognize hazards to residents or staff safety and take appropriate action to maintain safe environment according to facility policy and procedures.
• Replace, repair and purchase items according to facility policy and procedure.
• Plan and implement preventive maintenance program and document accurately.
• Maintain weather protection against cold, heat, fire and other hazards.
• Supervise outside contractors.
• Serve on-call for emergency and off-duty hours.
• Perform errands and tasks as required.
• Maintain upkeep of exterior of building and grounds in all weather conditions.
• Demonstrate and teach correct safety techniques, in accord with company policy and prior training.
• Is knowledgeable in and ensures staff comply with Privacy Practices to protect residents’ health information.
