Job summary

FutureTech Recruitment partners with a fast-growing AI startup to hire a Head of Product Engineering. You will lead an 8-person product engineering team, shipping production code initially, then taking full ownership while staying hands-on.

You’ll shape what gets built with founders, product, and enterprise customers, ensuring a high quality UI and robust document workflows. This role reports to the VP of Engineering.

FutureTech Recruitment is partnered with a $100M+ funded Series B (a16z-backed) AI startup building the document intelligence layer for enterprise AI. Customers include top-tier AI labs and Fortune 10 enterprises. Strong revenue growth year over year.

Hiring a Head of Product Engineering to lead and grow an 8-person product engineering team building on top of their document AI models - form filling, translation, document editing, classification, and a full agentic document platform. Player-coach role: you'll ship production code for your first few months before taking full team ownership. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, working directly with the founders.

What You'll Do

• Ship production code as an engineer on the team for your first few months, then take full ownership of the 8-person product engineering team while staying hands-on
• Shape what gets built and how - working with founders, product, and enterprise customers using an AI-first product lens to drive features like form filling, translation, document editing, and classification
• Hold a demanding quality bar for UIs that are fast, reliable, and precise - making complex document workflows feel intuitive; no AI slop, no settling for 90%
• Own hiring for product engineering - source and close great engineers as the team grows
• Work closely with Platform and ML teams to roll out new models and deployment capabilities, and define how AI is used in your own build process

Requirements

• Product and engineering leadership experience leading teams that built applications with significant impact (Head of Product Engineering, EM, or Eng Lead)
• Has shipped LLM-powered product features to production as a hands-on engineer - not only as the manager of the team that did
• 3+ years of experience managing engineers (EM, Eng Lead, or TLM) - or a first-time EM with 1-2 years at an AI-native company
• Built product at a B2B or enterprise AI company
• Thinks like a PM: reasons about evals, knows what makes B2B software worth paying for, holds technical conversations with enterprise customers
• High agency and self-direction; attention to detail that matters concretely - sloppy work is a real red flag here

Nice to Have

• Experience building platforms for AI frontier labs
• Experience building with LLMs in production - evaluation tooling in particular
