Job summary

Renesas Electronics Corp. in Columbia, MD seeks a Senior Staff Edge AI Applications Engineer to lead the physical Edge AI Applications Lab, drive PoCs, and mentor engineers.

You will oversee lab facilities, orchestrate hardware builds, and collaborate with customers and internal teams to deploy tiny ML on Renesas silicon. The ideal candidate has 7–12+ years in embedded software, DSP, and real-time edge computing, with hands-on prototyping, C/C++ firmware, and experience deploying ML on

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with hands-on lab leadership.
• 7–12+ years of embedded software, hardware prototyping, DSP, and real-time edge computing.
• Strong C/C++ firmware skills for constrained MCUs; experience with RTOS and low-level drivers.

Responsibilities

• Lab Ownership: manage physical lab facilities, equipment, parts, and project scheduling for PoCs and internal R&D.
• Physical Prototyping: lead hands-on assembly of prototype rigs, sensor arrays, and microelectronic setups.
• High-Frequency Data Engineering: instrument systems to capture and preprocess high-frequency sensor data.
• DSP & TinyML Deployment: design DSP pipelines and deploy quantized TinyML models on microcontrollers.
• Customer & cross-BU Collaboration: work with customers and product teams to ingest telemetry and debug edge firmware.
• Team Mentorship: guide junior engineers in firmware debugging and prototyping.
