Job description

Job Title: Head of eCommerce, North America
The Role

The Head of eCommerce, North America leads the full digital business across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. This is the most senior digital role in the region. The role reports to the Head of North America and is a member of the regional leadership team. The role has a dotted line to the Head of Global eCommerce in Hong Kong.

The role owns the North America digital P&L. The scope includes digital sales, the websites, paid media, retention, digital merchandising, marketplaces, omnichannel, and all digital vendors and agencies.

The operating model is a small in-house team supported by agency partners. An agency may operate a large part of daily execution. This role is the accountable owner. It sets the plan, directs the partners, and answers for the results. It makes hiring, vendor, and spending decisions inside the approved digital budget.

The global team in Hong Kong sets brand standards, platform decisions, and the release calendar. This role delivers regional execution and regional results.

Why this role
  • Growth. North America has significant upside potential and will become the primary ecommerce growth driver globally.
  • Ownership. You own a P&L, a budget, a team, and the partner model for a global brand.
  • Freedom to build. You will shape the team, the technology, and the omnichannel experience.
What You Will Own
Digital P&L and growth
  • Own the North America digital P&L: revenue, gross margin, marketing spend, fulfillment cost, and channel contribution.
  • Build the budget, the multi-year plan, and the demand forecast with the Head of Finance, NA and the Head of North America. Deliver the revenue and profitability targets.
  • Identify new revenue sources, including Canada, Mexico, and marketplaces.
Site, customer experience, and digital merchandising
  • Own the websites and the full customer journey, from the first visit to delivery and returns. Lead conversion rate optimization.
  • Ensure that visual merchandising, product imagery, and marketing assets on all digital channels are world class and follow global brand guidelines.
  • Own the digital launch process for product releases and collaborations, including site readiness and bot protection. Work with Merchandising and Planning on assortment, launch quantities, and inventory health.
Paid media, retention, and customer data
  • Own the paid media budget. Measure results on customer lifetime value (LTV), and not only on first-order return.
  • Own customer retention: email, SMS, loyalty, and lifecycle programs.
  • Work with the Head of Marketing, NA so that brand campaigns, collaborations, and performance marketing follow one calendar and one message.
Omnichannel
  • Lead the North America omnichannel plan with the Head of Retail, NA. The goal is one view of the customer, inventory, and orders across the websites and the stores.
  • Deliver omnichannel services: buy online and pick up in store, ship from store, store orders delivered to home, and returns in any channel.
  • Agree with Finance and Retail on how sales and costs are credited between digital and stores.
Agencies, vendors, and partners
  • Select, contract, and closely manage all digital agencies, vendors, and marketplace partners. Set a clear scope, clear KPIs, and a fixed review schedule for each partner.
  • Decide whether to keep, change, or exit a partner that does not perform. When an exit is needed, build the alternative and manage the transition without harm to sales or to the customer.
  • Make sure the brand owns and controls its accounts, customer data, and platform access at all times. Make sure all partners work from one plan, one calendar, and one set of data.
Global partnership and team
  • Act as the main North America contact for the Head of Global eCommerce and the global teams. Apply global standards, and align on the release calendar, assets, approvals, and launches.
  • Report results with clear KPIs: revenue, conversion rate, average order value (AOV), and LTV.
  • Lead and develop the regional eCommerce team. Decide which capabilities to build inside the company and which to keep with agencies.
Who You Are
Required
  • Senior eCommerce leader for a consumer brand at the Senior Director, VP, or Head of level.
  • Senior role in a digital business that scaled from about $20M to $100M or more in annual revenue, with direct responsibility for a major part of the result.
  • Direct responsibility for a digital or channel P&L, or a major part of one, including revenue, margin, and a large paid media budget.
  • Omnichannel experience and fluency. Has delivered unified customer data, unified inventory, and services that cross channels, in a business with both eCommerce and physical stores.
  • Has managed agencies that operate a large part of a business. Has changed or exited an agency while protecting results.
Strongly preferred
  • Experience in premium apparel, footwear, streetwear, or luxury, including limited product releases, collaborations, and high-demand launches.
  • Experience with Shopify Plus or a similar platform, with clienteling programs, and with one commerce platform across eCommerce and stores.
  • Experience in a global company with headquarters outside the U.S., including work in a matrix with a regional manager and a global functional leader.
  • Experience launching eCommerce in new markets such as Canada and Mexico.
Leadership characteristics
  • Commercial leader who decides with data and also understands brand, creative quality, and store retail.
  • Works as a peer to the regional heads of Retail, Marketing, and Finance.
  • Builds trust with the global team in Hong Kong while delivering for the region. Communicates clearly and patiently across cultures and time zones.
  • Sets strategy and also works directly with forecasts, site data, and campaign results. Direct and fair with partners, and acts when results are not delivered.
