Profound in New York is seeking a Head of Design to shape the entire product experience. You report to the CTO and collaborate with the founders and leadership team to embed design as a central voice in product decisions.

You will lead craft, strategy and people, building a design system and AI-enabled experiences while guiding a growing team. This on-site role is based at Union Square in NYC with visa sponsorship for international candidates.

Profound is hiring a Head of Design for a company building a new category of software, where design will shape the whole product experience. You'll report directly to the CTO and work closely with the founders and leadership team. As Profound puts it: "Design is a central voice in product decisions, not a function that executes against them."

What you'll be doing

• Set the design vision: define the long-term direction for the product experience and a consistent design language across the platform, making complex workflows clearer
• Shape product strategy: work with founders, product and engineering leaders on what to build, why and how
• Lead and grow the team: develop current designers, hire new ones and build a culture of high standards, ownership and honest critique as the team scales
• Lead through craft: stay hands-on through product judgement, visual and interaction design and prototyping, challenging assumptions to produce experiences that are both beautiful and functional
• Define AI-native experiences: create interaction patterns for software that acts on users' behalf, combining agents, complex data and human judgement
• Move fast without losing quality: build the principles, systems and rituals that let the team prototype, learn from customers and ship quickly
• Stay close to customers: use research, product intuition and data to solve real problems and help marketers do their jobs better

What we're looking for

• You have led product design at a fast-growing technology company, including setting vision, building teams and shaping company-level product direction
• Strong taste, a portfolio of shipped products and the ability to raise others' standards
• You have hired and developed designers, and improved a team you inherited, not only one you built
• You treat design and product strategy as one discipline, and can work through ambiguity and influence leaders and engineers
• You have designed sophisticated software, ideally B2B platforms, analytics, data visualisation or complex workflows
• You're hands-on: you can present a long-term vision, coach designers through hard problems and prototype in Figma or code
• You're excited about AI, experiment with new tools and have clear views on how AI will change products and design
