Job summary

r.Potential, a San Francisco-based enterprise platform, is seeking a Head of Data to own the data strategy, data products, and governance end-to-end.

You will report to the COO and work with CEO, Engineering, and Product to define what data the company holds, what data we acquire, and how we expose it to customers and partners. The role combines leadership with hands-on execution in a hybrid, SF Bay Area setting.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data science, machine learning, or data engineering, including 4+ years leading technical teams.
• Ownership of a data strategy with measurable outcomes.
• Track record building data products that customers pay for.
• Experience with third-party data datasets, including licensing constraints and provenance.
• Strong Python, SQL, production ML workflows, and scalable data architecture.
• Ability to own a Databricks-based platform or ramp quickly to it.
• Product sense to align with Product and Engineering on what to build for enterprise customers.
• Comfort with fast-paced startup environments and hybrid work models.
• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to work hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the data product roadmap with Product.
• Own our approach to external data sources including usage rights and licensing.
• Establish provenance, lineage, and entitlement discipline for data.
• Own the data behind measurement claims: definitions and methodologies.
• Shape external data interfaces with Engineering, including schema and versioning.
• Lead, hire, and develop the data team across data science, engineering, and platform.
• Own architecture and scalability of the end-to-end data platform (Databricks-centric).
• Guide production ML and analytics work: model development, deployment, monitoring, and data quality.
• Ensure ISO 27001 and SOC 2 compliance in partnership with Security.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to translate priorities into data initiatives.
• Foster a culture of responsible AI development.
