Job summary

Sturgis Bank is seeking a Chief Credit Officer to lead credit risk management for both retail and commercial lending. You will set policy, manage risk, and report portfolio performance to executives and the Board.

The role requires strong leadership and collaboration with compliance and operations teams. As CCO, you’ll refine underwriting standards, oversee credit administration practices, and guide credit strategy in a dynamic market while ensuring regulatory alignment and sound asset quality.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of credit risk management, underwriting, and regulatory expectations.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop people within the department.
• Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
• Highly effective people skills with individuals at all levels, and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Technologically proficient with various business software suites and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Bank's overall credit risk and the entire credit function for retail and commercial lending.
• Lead development and refinement of loan policies to ensure regulatory compliance and industry best practices.
• Ensure credit processes are efficient, scalable, and support timely decision‑making in a competitive market.
• Provide strategic oversight of the loan portfolio, including performance, trends, risk grading, and exceptions.
• Oversee portfolio analytics and reporting to executives and the Board on a regular basis.
• Chair or participate in asset quality meetings and loan committee processes, coordinating with regulators as needed.
