Job summary

U.S. Bank's Institutional Client Group seeks a Senior Portfolio Manager to lead a new Core Middle Market Originations team. You will guide credit decisions, structure deals, and mentor senior and early-career professionals while partnering with Relationship Managers to win new business and maintain strong credit quality.

This role requires deep Middle Market lending experience, a track record of team leadership, and the ability to operate with sound risk management within regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of banking experience
• 5+ years of management experience

Responsibilities

• Lead the credit assessment of new prospect opportunities from initial deal assessment through credit approval, documentation, and closing.
• Review and approve credit requests within delegated lending authority and elevate as appropriate.
• Develop well-supported credit structures, including covenants, collateral, and relationship return considerations, that balance growth with sound risk management.
• Partner with Middle Market Relationship Managers on prospect calls and provide early credit feedback so the team focuses on opportunities that fit the bank’s risk appetite.
• Manage the team’s pipeline and drive timely turnaround on prospect opportunities.
• Ensure credit processes are adequate, including timely credit requests, past due management, credit quality goals, and compliance.
