Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, sporting goods, motorsport, and industrial markets. Our thermoset composite products are used in nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also supplies composite materials for industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics, and sports equipment.
Our thermoplastic prepregs, known as Cetex, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys. These products are available in unidirectional tape or fabric form, using various engineered thermoplastic resins including PAEK, PEKK, PEEK, PPS, PEI, as well as other performance thermoplastics like Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.
MAJOR DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Utilize a well-developed network within the DoD community to identify, qualify, and engage with new business opportunities for TAC in the U.S. Defense industry, focusing on underdeveloped or new customer segments such as shipboard, satellite, launch, vehicle, soldier equipment, and other applications.
- Manage relationships with key strategic customers throughout the new business development process, including key account and program management activities, ensuring alignment with internal and external requirements.
- Collaborate with commercial and technical teams across regions (Europe, Japan, Korea, etc.) to identify and pursue new programs within local defense sectors.
- Lead engagements with DoD research labs (ARL, AFRL, NAVAIR, NAVSEA, Natick, Redstone, China Lake, etc.) to enhance brand awareness and identify key programs.
- Manage relationships with external consultants and key partners in the DoD sector.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders in R&D, finance, customer service, operations, and quality to support new business initiatives.
- Establish pricing strategies that meet or exceed financial objectives.
- Develop market expansion plans outside of legacy businesses.
- Qualify leads and profile new opportunities within the role's responsibility.
- Build strong relationships with customers and internal teams to strengthen partnerships.
- Address customer service issues in collaboration with operations and support functions.
- Prepare forecasts, pricing documents, and customer reports with analytics and recommendations.
- Provide feedback to R&D, Technical Service, Production, and Quality Assurance for product development and improvement.
- Contribute to new product development, pricing, contract negotiations, and product qualification strategies.
- Drive significant revenue growth for TAC.
EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Over 15 years of experience in sales, business development, or market development within the advanced materials or chemicals industry supporting U.S. DoD platforms.
- Established network within the Defense industry and supply chain, including OEMs, Tier 1 and 2 suppliers.
- Deep understanding of the Defense Industrial Base and supply chains, with expertise in engaging within these areas to generate revenue.
- High urgency and curiosity to explore new applications for TAC across markets.
- Expertise in managing large DoD OEM customer relationships and strategic engagement.
- Knowledge of composite materials, production processes, applications, and engineering.
- Proven ability to write proposals and secure opportunities.
- Strong financial and analytical skills.
- Excellent presentation, time management, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to develop professional relationships internally and externally.
- Understanding of international shipment regulations.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Possession or ability to obtain security clearance is a plus.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and adherence to safety procedures.
