Job summary

Gwinnett County is seeking a Building Division Director within the Department of Planning and Development. This role provides strategic direction, leads a team, and ensures compliance with building and construction codes while aligning with the County's plans and priorities.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's in a related field and extensive experience, including supervision, with a proven ability to manage complex projects, implement innovations, and foster an inclusive, high-performing work

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related field.
• Nine years of progressively responsible experience in architecture, construction project management, plan review, or inspections, including three years of supervisory experience.
• Thorough understanding of building and construction codes.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily operations of the Building Division to ensure code compliance.
• Interprets codes, updates amendments, and monitors state code changes.
• Coordinates across divisions on resident concerns and projects.
• Attends meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepares reports, audits data, and ensures quality control.
• Leads data tracking and resolution of investigations with stakeholders.
• Leads special projects like technology enhancements and SOPs/training.
• Monitors division performance metrics and customer service outcomes.
• Manages budget development, resources, expenditures, and financial statements.
• Oversees recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
• Promotes innovation and accountability in workplace culture.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related field
