Job summary

General Galactic is seeking a Director of Avionics to architect and own the electrical systems for next-generation spacecraft. You will collaborate with founders and engineers to drive architecture, verification, and flight operations from design through deployment.

You will lead a growing team of avionics engineers, defining interfaces, redundancy, and testing strategies while partnering with software, GNC, propulsion, and mechanical teams to deliver integrated vehicle hardware.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical/related field and aerospace experience.
• 5+ years of avionics or electrical hardware development experience.
• Experience leading avionics architecture for hardware-integrated systems.
• Proven hardware debugging and testing capabilities.
• Knowledge of spacecraft interfaces like CAN, SpaceWire, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART.
• Experience with harnessing, grounding, EMC, and high-reliability design.
• Understanding of radiation effects and fault tolerance.
• Experience building and leading technical teams in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Own avionics architecture for vehicles, test systems, and ground support equipment.
• Lead design, development, integration, qualification, and deployment of avionics systems.
• Define system requirements, interfaces, redundancy, grounding, and power distribution.
• Oversee schematic design, PCB layout, and board bring-up.
• Lead development of flight computers, power electronics, and embedded hardware.
• Recruit and mentor electrical engineers as the team grows.
• Collaborate with software, GNC, propulsion, mechanical, and systems teams.
• Implement avionics development processes, design reviews, and test tracking.
