Job summary

Vertex’s AMP team seeks a high-impact leader to develop cutting-edge manufacturing solutions for Cell & Genetic Therapies. You will lead an interdisciplinary engineering team in novel equipment development, qualification, and technology transfer for automated systems.

The role requires directing design, deployment, vendor coordination, and validation efforts while ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations. Travel is 10–15%.

Qualifications

PhD in chemical engineering, computer science, automation engineering or related field with 5+ years of life sciences, manufacturing, or engineering experience.
MS in chemical engineering, computer science, automation engineering or related field with 6+ years of life sciences, manufacturing, or engineering experience.
BS in chemical engineering, computer science, automation engineering or related field with 8+ years of life sciences, manufacturing, or engineering experience.
Travel 10–15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of automation engineers from concept to deployment for GMP manufacturing systems.
Define automation strategy and oversee equipment qualification, vendor selection, and validation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership; manage budgets and schedules.
Develop procedures, risk assessments, and change controls for automated systems.
