Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries is seeking an Open Rank – Head of UAB Archives to lead the UAB Archives, the official repository for university records and digital collections. This faculty, non-tenure track, 12-month appointment reports to the Associate Dean for Historical Collections and guides archival processing, outreach, and digitization efforts.

• Accredited master’s degree in library, archival, or information science with a special collections/archival focus.
• Experience creating collection inventories and finding aids.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage accession, processing, and care of all collections in UAB Archives.
• Meet the research and reference needs of patrons and the university community.
• Contribute to department-level projects and planning.
• Identify and make available collections for digitization and digital curation.
• Collaborate to increase discoverability through finding aids and cataloging.
