The Granite YMCA is hiring a full-time Lead Lifeguard to support our pool facilities at our YMCA of the Seacoast location in Portsmouth, NH. This person will play a key role in leading our staff teams while supporting the needs of our members and ensuring safety in all areas of the pool area.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 2 years of lifeguarding experience and currently holds a Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification. Preferred candidates may also bring experience teaching swim lessons or water exercise. The YMCA of the Seacoast has a year-round indoor pool and two outside seasonally operated pools.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise Aquatics staff in the absence of the Aquatics Director or Coordinator.
• Provide administrative support on a weekly basis.
• Understand emergency procedures and recognize and respond to emergency situations in the pool area.
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other team members.
• Understand and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool area. Take responsibility for implementing and supporting changes to policies/procedures.
• Maintain accurate pool records as required by the YMCA and state/local Health Department code.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed; this includes rescue equipment and well-stocked fanny packs and first aid kits.

Position Specifics:

• Schedule is dependent upon candidate availability and department needs at time of hire.
• Preferred availability for a mix of weekday and weekend hours.
• Pay starting at $16/hr and commensurate with experience.
• Free Lifeguard recertification provided by the YMCA if needed.
