Job description

Description

The Granite YMCA is hiring a Seasonal Head Lifeguard to support our pool facilities at our YMCA of the Seacoast location in Portsmouth, NH. This person will play a key role in leading our staff teams while supporting the needs of our members and ensuring safety in all areas of the pool area.

This position has the flexibility to be part-time or full-time, depending upon the candidate’s availability. Opportunity for advancement for interested candidates and employees since we promote from within: nearly all of our Coordinators, Assistant Director and Directors started out as Lifeguards.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 2years of lifeguarding experience and currently holds a Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification. The YMCA of the Seacoast has a year-round indoor pool, and two outside seasonally operated pools.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Aquatics staff in the absence of the Aquatics Director or Coordinator
  • Understands emergency procedures and recognizes and responds to emergency situations in the pool area
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other team members
  • Understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool area. Takes responsibility for implementing and supporting change of policies/procedures
  • Maintains accurate pool records as required by the YMCA and state/local Health Department code
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed; this includes rescue equipment and well stocked fanny packs and first aid kits

Position Specifics:

  • Schedule is dependent upon candidate availability with part-time or full-time hours available: Looking for a start date of early June- mid August, Start date is flexible and could be May
  • Preferred availability for Tuesday – Saturday or Sunday – Thursday work week, with weekday shift encompassing afternoon/evening hours
  • Pay starting at $16hr and commensurate with experience
  • Free Lifeguard recertification provided by the YMCA if needed
