Stony Brook University is seeking a Head Janitor to oversee custodial operations on campus. The role involves supervising staff, ensuring compliance with cleanliness standards, and managing resources effectively. Candidates must meet Civil Service requirements and have supervisory experience. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and requires a valid NYS driver's license.

Required Qualifications: As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have passed the relevant Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list. Transfers within 70.1 are encouraged; candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and served permanently for at least one year. Provisional appointments may be made if necessary, with the requirement to pass the next Civil Service exam. Must be a qualified employee of New York State with one year of permanent service as a Supervising Janitor. Valid NYS Driver’s License and a clean motor vehicle record are required. Out-of-State applicants must provide evidence of a valid license and driving abstract within five business days of a conditional offer and obtain a NYS driver’s license within 30 days of employment. Must be able to move heavy objects such as trash bags, salt, ice, and floor machines.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of supervisory and training experience; strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, CMMS, and Google Apps.
Brief Description of Duties: Directs custodial operations on campus, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance with standards. Supervises staff, manages resources, reports on operations, and oversees special event setups. Ensures staff adheres to cleaning procedures and investigates performance issues. Prepares reports on work activity, costs, attendance, and manpower. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Notes: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt, eligible for overtime. Salary: $59,787 plus $4,000 location pay. Must pass background check.
