Job Description

This Remote Lead Janitor position oversees and directs activities related to laundry, cleaning services, and other duties necessary to maintain remote industrial housing facilities, food service areas, office facilities, or similar environments in a clean and orderly condition. The role involves expediting product, supplies, and equipment between camps. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS's mission, vision, values, and housekeeping policies, practices, and procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Perform all duties required of a janitor or other assigned roles.
2. Ensure all obligations of assigned responsibilities are met.
3. Promote NMS Core Values within the workplace.
4. Guide and supervise assigned housekeeping and janitorial staff.
5. Train new employees and provide ongoing training to existing staff.
6. Manage inventories, including regular checks, replacements, and distribution.
7. Conduct inspections to ensure quality standards are maintained.
8. Oversee equipment care and maintenance.
9. Participate in safety meetings and ensure daily operations comply with safety standards.
10. Ensure staff meet quality standards and work procedures.
11. Address minor maintenance or client emergencies personally or escalate as needed.
12. Assist staff in resolving work-related issues.
13. Identify and report safety hazards on site.
14. Ensure availability of all required HazCom documentation.
15. Notify supervisors if safety and sanitation standards are not met.
16. Supervise staff effectively.
17. Perform other relevant duties to support department or unit success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year experience with commercial cleaning equipment and industrial cleaning processes.
• Minimum one (1) year experience in commercial housekeeping.
• Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience in a related field.
• Ability to pass all pre-employment requirements, including background checks and drug tests.
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members, customers, and clients.
• Decision-making skills with minimal supervision.
• Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift.
• Ability to live in dormitory-style accommodations and meet cleanliness standards.
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Adherence to safety guidelines and regulations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Indoor/outdoor environment with frequent exposure to arctic conditions. Noise levels range from moderate to loud. Employees must be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and potentially toxic chemicals may occur. Travel by plane or bus to remote camps is required. Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs is necessary.
